TEHRAN – Satellite images reveal significant damage to Israel’s Nevatim airbase that houses U.S.-made F-35 fighter jets after Iran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israeli military sites in retaliation to Israel’s high-profile assassinations in Tehran and Beirut.

Satellite images of the airbase show a large hole in the roof of an aircraft hangar.

On Tuesday evening, the Iranian military fired around 200 ballistic missiles at Israeli military and intelligence bases in response to the July 31 assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, and the September 27 killing of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian military advisor to Lebanon Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan in Beirut.

According to a report by AP on Wednesday, satellite images of the Nevatim base in southern Israel show significant damage to several buildings near the runway, with debris scattered in the area.

The airbase, located in the Negev desert, houses the Israeli Air Force's most advanced aircraft, including F-35 Lightning II stealth fighters. It also accommodates C-130 transport aircraft, Boeing 707 tankers, and reconnaissance planes.

At least seven videos showed 20 to 30 Iranian ballistic missiles hitting the base, causing substantial damage, Tasnim reported. Some sources said over 20 fighter jets were destroyed.

The Israeli military acknowledged damage to some airbases in the missile strikes but claimed that fighter jets, drones, and critical infrastructure remained unaffected. They reported that only office buildings and maintenance areas were hit.

Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh has confirmed that the military operation achieved over 90% success, noting that no civilian sites were targeted.

He added that three military bases and one intelligence site were hit.
